A permit is REQUIRED for any home improvement project with a value over $1,000.00. Although many home improvements may exceed $1,000.00, you DO NOT require a permit for the following:

• Painting
• Re-roofing
• Cabinetry work
• Floor covering
• Some block walls and fencing

Permits REQUIRED relating to Kitchens:

• Electrical exceeding $500.00
• Plumbing exceeding $1,000.00
• Drywall exceeding $1,000.00
• Relocation of any walls, windows & doors interior or exterior
• Installation of new countertops
• Installation of any/all cabinetry which are attached to walls

Plan Ahead

• Building permits for residential projects are now taking up to 3 weeks to process with condo's 3 months to a year! Plans and designs, varies depending on scope of work. After record increases in insurance, labor and material from 2005 - 2008. We expect the remainder of 2009 to be flat until the pent up demand begins to increase material costs again in 2010 and 2011.
